With a stethoscope gently resting on her newborn's chest, Presley Trejo listened to her little girl's heart beat for the very last time.
At simply 12 days old, baby Emerson passed away in her mother's arms.

For Presley, her heart still aches over the loss of her baby girl whose death was entirely preventable.
"Picking out a tiny baby casket is the most gut-wrenching affair," Presley tells 7Life.
On July 25 2018, Presley and her married man Elias welcomed Emerson into the world.
With two big brothers and a loving mum and dad, the Trejo family was complete.
Happy and healthy, both mum and baby were discharged from hospital two days after the birth.
A few days later at Emerson's newborn checkup, the pediatrician noticed a small-scale blister within her mouth.
"He told u.s.a. that this was very mutual in newborns and not to worry almost information technology," the US mum explains.
But iv days afterwards, Emerson suddenly stopped breathing.
After being rushed to hospital, doctors managed to stabilise the newborn before examining her.
Presley told doctors of the small cicatrice in her infant'south mouth, but the medical staff reiterated what her pediatrician had told her a few days prior - that the blister was normal.
"The spot was never tested," Presley says.
With a slight fever, doctors placed the baby on fluids.
"She just slept… and slept.. and slept.. she wasn't waking up very ofttimes to feed so that concerned me," the mum says.
When she raised her concerns, the medical staff explained that once Emerson was off the medication she would be back to her normal bubbly self.
And three days later Emerson's status had stabalised and she was discharged.
"She was still pretty lethargic and yet didn't have an appetite. I simply assumed she was still coming off of the fluid," her mum says.
For the side by side few days Emerson continued to reject food so Presley phoned doc after doctor desperately seeking an answer.
But the mum was told by multiple doctors that once the fluids had completely flushed out of her system, Emerson would exist dorsum to her hungry self.
Presley wasn't convinced the doctors were right and turned to Google for answers.

That night Emerson woke as usual and so thinking she must be overreacting, her relieved mum planned a day of fun for the family of five.
"I'll never forget this solar day… what started out every bit such a beautiful perfect twenty-four hours would cease up in the nigh horrific nightmare of my life," the mum says.
That afternoon as they pulled Emerson out from her car seat she began to have a seizure. And then she went limp and began to turn royal in her mother's artillery.
As emergency services arrived, they began performing CPR.
Presley's precious girl had stopped breathing.

At the hospital, Presley and Elias paced the corridors waiting for any news.
"I've never seen so many doctors and nurses trying to save ane tiny babe," she says.
Afterward what felt similar eternity, doctors eventually pulled the parents bated.
"We found out that it was besides late to save her. Her kidneys had failed and her liver was right behind," Presley says.
"We knew we weren't going dwelling house with our babe once again. It was and then we found out she had HSV-1.
"We went out to our family finally, and told them that she wasn't going home with usa once more. She was completely on a ventilator and only machines here keeping her alive," the mum tearfully recalls.
Crushed by the news, Elias and Presley held each other.
That night the family spent the evening on the infirmary flooring and the next morning they had to make a decision.
"Nosotros discussed all dark long simply felt information technology was best for us to let her go and then she wouldn't have to suffer anymore.
"The baby I saw in that bed, wasn't my Emerson anymore. And it would have been selfish of me to try and hold on to her whatever longer," Presley says.
On Baronial 6, 2018 the Trejo family said their final adieu.
At 12 days erstwhile, Presley had her terminal cuddle with her little girl as the family unit turned off her life back up.
"We just held on to her as tight as we could," she says.
"The nurses gave u.s.a. a stethoscope for us to heed to her heartbeat until in that location wasn't one anymore."
Presley can't recall what happened in the days following Emerson's passing, revealing she just felt "numb".
"I remember walking into the chapel at her funeral and all the seats were completely full and people were standing on the sides and out the door. It was amazing having so many people who loved and cared most our girl," she adds.
As she laid her infant girl to rest, Presley knew she would never forget the 12 special days she got to share with Emerson.

Three months later, the family unit was brought out of their dark deject of grief when they received some unexpected news - Presley was pregnant.
"Not with i only two perfect infant girls. Nosotros were thrilled and excited but knew we could never replace our Emmy daughter," she says
And nine months afterward 2 gorgeous healthy rainbow babies were built-in.
Only Presley doesn't run across herself equally a mum of four. She is a proud mum of five - four earth-side and one angel.

"My plea to parents is to please don't let anyone kiss your babies. Not on the easily or face up, mouth. You can carry the [HSV-1] virus and never have an outbreak," the mum warns.
